Reflection on Ameer Salem’s presentation

Date: Wednesday 23rd May 2012

Venue: W007

Time: 11

Topic: obesity

Introduction: he started by asking about what does obesity mean and what is BMI which was related with the topic of his presentation

Then he showed us a table to measure the BMI and explained how we can measure it. He talked about the rate of obesity in the world and the obesity in the last study is spread in Asians more than westerners.
  Also, he showed some pictures of obese people and the causes of obesity and to show obesity in children and adult people.

Finally, he talked about the effects and presented some pictures of solutions to this problem. He was confident to express with a relaxed manner; his discussion went well with the audience and he answered well to questions.

Body language was perfect; he used his hands to express and eye contact was good.
In discussion, he performed well for this problem; I think he gave us a good view and covered all the causes.
 In addition, he brought a balanced solution for those who want to reduce their weight.

New things which I learnt: The rate of obesity around the world is 1.7 billion; obesity is spread in Asians more than westerners and I learnt the BMI for me.

Meeting activity

Problem: student success

Date of meeting: 14th March 2012
Time of meeting: 11:25
Venue: W007
Group members:

Chair: Abdulrahman
Minute taker: Salem
Participant: Rashid

Venue preparation:
Grouping of chairs round tables

Agenda:
Time management
Focus on study
Motivation
Friendship
Suitable major

The chairman Abdulrahman opened the meeting at 11:25

* Time management.

Salem thought that organizing a time table would be useful for students. Rashid supported Salem in his opinion, and he suggested that students should arrange their activities to be at weekends. Abdulrahman said that students do have enough time to study, but the problem is that they use it doing other stuff.
From here we moved to item 2.

* Focus on study.

Rashid said that some students are working in addition to their study. Those students have the right to get enough time to study by getting study leave. Abdulrahman agreed. Salem pointed out that homework is very important for students to be successful; it prepares them for exams.

* Motivation.

Rashid said that dreams are good motivators. Students always try to achieve their childhood dreams. Salem admitted that students who get a high GPA must be given a scholarship (money, and job). That will push them to study more. Abdulrahman wondered if having a scholarship would affect students negatively.From his own experience, Rashid said that he sometimes feels nervous but he always does the best he can so he doesn’t lose his scholarship.

* Friendship.
Salem said that friends affect students results largely. Good friends will help the student in his homework, share their information with him, and teach him if he didn't understand. On the other hand, Rashid spoke about bad friends. He said that students will not get any benefit from being with them. Abdulrahman proposed the idea of mixing good students with bad ones to exchange their knowledge. Both Salem and Rashid supported the idea.

* Suitable major.

Abdulrahman thought that choosing the best major is very important to be successful. Students must choose a major that they like, not the one that they are good in. Rashid added that their choice must not be affected by their parents or anyone else. Salem agreed.

In conclusion we thought that:

1. Being a successful student isn’t so easy. It needs a lot of sacrifice.
2. The motivation, and time management are the most important things to be successful.
3. We liked the idea of giving good students scholarships.

my reflection on meeting activity

Student success
Time of meeting : 11:25 am
Venue: W007

Chair: Abdulrahman
Minute taker: Salem
Participant: Rashid

In this meeting we discussed how  the students could achieve success in their study.
In the beginning Abdulrahman welcomed us, then he passed the agenda to us.
We discussed 5 topics; time management, focus on study, motivation, friendship and suitable major. I think the selection of topics was very good.
The first item we discussed was the time management; Salem said that making a timetable is the best solution to manage the student time. And all the members agreed with Salem.
The next topic was focus on study; we discussed how a student could focus in his study and what are the distractions that affect  the student, and we pointed out that focusing on homework will help a lot in success.
But I think the most important issues were the motivation and the friendship; we all agreed that if the student has something to motivate him he will push himself to do better and better in the study. Also the friends could affect  the student average, so all students should choose their friends carefully.
At last we talked about the suitable major, and Abdulrahman was fixed in this this point; he said each student has to choose the major he likes not only the one that they are good in.

In conclusion, the motivation, friendship and time management are the most important things to be successful.

Interview with Abdulla Eissa ; application to one of the ADNOC companies.
On 15th  February 2012
Interviewers, Mr. Hedley, Ahmad and Ahmad Yousef.
The interviewers were nice to Abdulah; they were fair with him,  asking  good straight questions,but Ahmad Yousef was a little bit hard with his questions; I think he tried to make Abdulla nervous. But Abdulla was so confident in his interview.
Ahmad Yousef asked Abdulla many questions like, do you have experience before, can you work under pressure and can you prove that to me, can you work outside and inside.
Mr. Hedley was simple with his questions; for example he asked him to tell them about himself, and why do you want to work at our company and do you have experience to work in a team.
